Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Goes Big on Features and Price

[ad_1]

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is the latest addition to Xiaomi’s ever-expanding smartphone portfolio. Only a few people may remember, but the Redmi Note smartphone was among the first few launches in India in its debut year – 2014. That reminds me, Xiaomi is celebrating its 10 years in India this year, and the company has a solid start to the year with three new phones – Redmi Note 13, Redmi Note 13 Pro and Redmi Note 13 Pro+. If you have been following Xiaomi closely, you may be aware that its Redmi Note is one of the smartphone series offering the most value-for-money package.

The Redmi Note series in India initially targeted the sub-Rs. 10,000 category between 2014 and 2017, after which we saw a gradual increase in prices over the years. But, with increasing component prices, that was unavoidable. Back in 2017, I got my hands on the Redmi Note 4 for review and cut to 2023; I have the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ – a device that packs all bells and whistles for the price segment. But the stakes have changed; consumer expectations have skyrocketed, and the company’s offering has evolved. So, does the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ do justice, and is it worth buying? I answer that in the review.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Design and Display

Xiaomi has set the benchmark in terms of design with the first launch itself this year. Yes, I’m talking about the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. It is the only smartphone launched in the last few years I have preferred to use without a case. The entire fusion design has worked for me and probably for the people who noticed the phone while I was reviewing and liked the colour-blocked pattern design in particular. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ launch with vegan leather is also a sign that there will be plenty of phones with the same back design this year.

The phone comes in Fusion White, Fusion Black, and Fusion Purple colours. I got the latter one, which looks the best of the three. The vegan leather back and the curved display design have worked in favour of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. It’s easier for one-hand tasks. This is the first time Xiaomi has added a 3D curved display on a Note series device. While they have been late to the party, they nailed it when it comes to offering a perfect one-hand grip. The curve towards the back makes it comfortable to hold.

The front has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for protection, an excellent addition to this price segment device. With this, Xiaomi is all set to raise the benchmark for other manufacturers. The company, during a briefing session, claimed that the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is among the strongest Redmi yet, with a strong thickened motherboard and reinforced aluminium corner. While I’m no JerryRig to test durability, despite all of these additions, the Leather Vegan variant is under 200 grams, which is interesting. The body-to-weight distribution is decent, and at no point during the review, I felt that the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ was too heavy for one-hand usage. The physical buttons are tactile and easily accessible. Overall, Xiaomi has mostly nailed the design part of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+.

Jumping to the display. The phone features a 6.67-inch 3D Curved AMOLED display (1220×2712 pixels) with 446PPI pixel density and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. One of the highlights of the phone is its screen-to-body ratio, which stands at 93.35 percent. The display supports Dolby Vision, and it is a stunning display for most multimedia needs. Be it streaming shows on Netflix or, gaming or just browsing photo gallery, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is excellent. Texts appear sharp, while images are crisp on the display. The sunlight legibility is also excellent. There’s the in-display fingerprint scanner, which works flawlessly and is quick. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ packs one of the best displays we have used on a Redmi Note device yet.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Performance

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra processor clocked at 2.8GHz. Notably, this is a custom chip designed for the 13 Pro+. It comes with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 storage. There are multiple SKUs – 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB. The company sent the top-of-the-line model for this review.

For gaming enthusiasts, it packs a large vapour cooling chamber. Talking about real-world performance, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ handles most of the multitasking smoothly. Everything, from app launch to switching between apps, is easily handled. Thanks to a crisp display, the multimedia experience on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is excellent.

Jumping to gaming, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ can easily handle games like COD Mobile, BGMI, and Need for Speed No Limits. Depending on the game itself, you can choose between mid to high graphics settings, and the device handles it all. To compare, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ can handle games better than Nothing Phone 2 and Pixel 7a

In the benchmarks, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ performed decently. It scored 1122 in single-core and 2598 in multi-core tests on GeekBench, while on AnTuTu, it scored a solid 721512 but below the OnePlus Nord 3. On the GFX Bench, the device scored 31fps in Car Chase and 115fps in T-Rex tests.

To enhance the overall experience, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ packs dual speakers with Dolby Atmos, offering one of the better audio experiences in the price segment. Another thing that I liked was the haptics motor on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+; it is powerful and offers good typing feedback. There’s also IR Blaster on offer, a signature Redmi feature now.

redmi note 13 pro plus notifications Redmi Note 13 Pro Toggles

The biggest addition to Redmi Note 13 Pro+ this year is IP68 certification. This is the highest level of water and dust protection we have seen on new-age flagships, and by bringing it to the mid-premium price segment, Xiaomi has set a benchmark. While the IP rating does not allow you to start diving into a swimming pool with your phone, it gives you peace of mind that the phone offers a level of protection.

The calling experience on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ was excellent. The device can latch onto networks at almost dark zones, which is impressive. There’s also an AI Face Unlock feature on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which works well. Though, I preferred the in-display fingerprint scanner as it was quick. There’s NFC support on the device, too, which is a neat addition.

redmi note 13 pro plus toggle Redmi Note 13 Pro notifications

The overall performance of a device also has a dependency on the software aspect. This is where it gets slightly tricky for the device. Until Xiaomi was targeting a lower price bracket, the bloatware and app notifications were all right to some extent. At a price point of upwards of Rs. 30,000, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ gets into a spot. From setting the phone to the point where I’m typing the review, the phone threw a bunch of GetApps notifications daily. Mind you, this is after I force-stopped it multiple times. Keeping these aside, the software experience has been good. The number of pre-installed apps has come down to some extent, but it is still there.

Another disappointment with the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ was the Android version; yes, it launched with Android 13 out of the box. Considering some Poco devices are now getting Android 14 with HyperOS, the MIUI 14 with Android 13 treatment seems unfair. But I’m guessing the company is already working on the update, and it may be pushed to the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ soon. Talking about future updates, the company promises three major updates and four years of security updates. One of the updates will be Android 14-based HyperOS, which will get Android 15 and 16 until 2026.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Camera

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ sports a triple camera setup featuring a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor, a big talking point of the device. We will get to the other two sensors in a bit. The primary camera of the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is one of its biggest strengths and packs OIS and EIS. There’s a long list of supported features that include Portrait Mode with Beautify, Depth Control and Filters support, Night Mode, AI Camera, AI Beautify, Pro Mode, HDR, Macro, Assist cam, Long Exposure, Procut, AI SkyScraping, Magic cutout, Smart Beautify and more.

The camera UI is, again, simple and familiar. Anyone who has had a Xiaomi phone can quickly understand the interface. Talking about real-world performance, the primary camera performs well in good lighting conditions. The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ offers a wide dynamic range and good detail in daylight images. The colour reproduction is also decent, the exposure level is good, and the noise levels are well-controlled in bright lights. The autofocusing is also quick, which makes it ideal for point-and-shoot purposes. Xiaomi has been improving cameras on its Redmi Note series, and last year’s Redmi Note 12 Pro+ also packed solid primary cameras.

redmi note 13 pro plus top Redmi Note 13 Pro cameras

Even in low light, I liked the amount of detail captured, and the colours were also decent. I got some decent low-light shots on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which I could use for a while at a railway station and capture the Lamborghini Urus parked. However, the low-light results are inconsistent at times. The colours are sometimes too over-saturated.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ daylight performance

The phone performs well in zoom shots, all thanks to the 200-megapixel sensor, and the 2x zoom shots are almost lossless. Where it gets tricky is when you start using the 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. I’m curious why Xiaomi went with this sensor as it is unreliable, and shots that we got had low details captured. Another disappointment is the 2-megapixel macro camera, which barely produces decent shots, and if you really want photos, try using zoom modes for better photos.

The phone supports 4K videos at 30fps and Slow-motion videos as well. Video performance on the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is decent in well-lit conditions, but in low light, I noticed videos getting blurry and some noise levels.

The 16-megapixel front-facing camera works well in daylight. It doesn’t add any artificial smoothing or filters by default, resulting in a more natural look. The skin tone is also more realistic. The selfies taken at night are decent enough to share on social media platforms because these platforms usually compress the image quality. Therefore, you don’t have to worry too much about the quality of the night-time selfies.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Battery

Coming to the battery department, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ packs a 5000mAh battery, which is standard for the Note series now after all these years. But, looking at how the form factor has evolved over the years is an interesting journey. Cherry on the cake is 120W HyperCharge, which means fast charging at user convenience.

It is great to see the company shipping 120W adaptors instead of 67W, especially considering the price jump. This also means that the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is among a handful of devices available at around Rs. 35,000, offering over 100W fast-charging speeds. As expected, Xiaomi packs its indigenous Surge P1 chip in the adaptor, a custom chip for charging the battery more efficiently. The company claims the phone can charge from 0 to 100 percent in 19 minutes. However, my experience was slightly different.

redmi note 13 pro plus charger Redmi Note 13 Pro charger

While the 120W HyperCharge was an excellent relief for short charging sessions, like when I was late for the office and the phone was at 28 percent, and in about 10-12 minutes, it was 75 percent, and I could use the phone for the rest of the day. From 0 to 100 percent, my charging test results never stood at 100 under 20 minutes. It was either around the 30-minute mark or sometimes longer than that. This could be a unit-related issue, too. But that aside, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a solid phone when it comes to battery.

With heavy usage, the phone lasted almost a whole day with regular apps open in the background, a couple of hours of gaming, and some streaming on Prime Video. With medium usage, the phone almost lasted for 36 hours. In our video loop test, wherein the device plays the same video in a loop until the battery dies with optimum settings, the phone lasted for about 9 hours and 55 minutes, which was decent.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Review: Verdict

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ has a lot going for it. Its design, display, and battery life are its most notable features. The primary camera is impressive for its price range, and the addition of 120W fast charging and IP68 rating make it stand out from the competition. Adding IP68 should revolutionise this price category for the highest water and dust rating, usually limited to premium smartphones.

However, the software situation could be better, as the phone comes with preloaded bloatware. The camera performs poorly in low light conditions, and additional sensors are not useful.

The Redmi Note has traditionally been a great value proposition, but this year, this is only true for some models. Thanks to multiple SKUs, Xiaomi offers Redmi Note 13 to everyone from sub-Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 35,000. However, now that it has entered the Rs. 30,000 price bracket, it faces stiff competition from devices like the Pixel 7a (Review). If you prioritise a unique design, a vibrant display, long battery life, and an excellent primary camera and are willing to overlook the preloaded apps for overall performance, then the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is a solid choice.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400: Gaming Test Video Suggests the Gap Is Closing

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Exynos 2400: Gaming Test Video Suggests the Gap Is Closing

[ad_1]

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 series went official last week. While the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in the US, they run on Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 in most other territories, including India. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, in contrast, is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in all markets. Early benchmark results indicated that Exynos 2400 drags behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. However, the chipsets have been pitted against each other in a new gaming test video measuring how powerful the CPUs and GPUs are. The video shows that Samsung’s flagship SoC manages to stay on par with Qualcomm’s offering while playing games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Fortnite.

Technology channel NL Tech has released a 43-minute video on YouTube that compares the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC-powered Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra alongside the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24+ in real-world gaming performance. The examination included popular titles such as FortniteGenshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, PUBG New State, Call of Duty: Mobile, War Thunder, and Mobile Legends. The YouTuber has enabled Samsung’s Game Booster and “Alternate game performance management” on the new handsets to ensure maximum capabilities before starting the tests.

Both Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra performed similarly in Genshin Impact and PUBG Mobile by maintaining 60fps (frame per second). In PUBG New State, both phones managed to keep a stable frame rate of around 90fps. The phones achieved 60fps in Mobile Legends and both chips maintained 90fps, sometimes dropping to 70fps, in Fortnite.

The video highlights that the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S24 Ultra led in Call of Duty: Mobile by maintaining a smooth 120fps. The Exynos-powered Galaxy S24+, on the other hand, was capped at 60fps. The Exynos 2400 makes a comeback by outperforming the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in War Thunder by reaching 100fps backed by its Xclipse 940 GPU while the Snapdragon throttled down to 40fps.

The tests showed that both Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets come neck and neck in delivering smooth gaming performance. Despite initial concerns, Samsung’s in-house chipset was able to stay on par with Qualcomm’s offering without any major performance discrepancy in games. The tests were carried out on pre-production hardware and the results might change after Samsung releases further optimisations.

Ahead of the official debut, a Realme smartphone thought to be the Indian variant of Realme 12 Pro+ has been spotted over at Geekbench with model number RMX3840. It appears that the handset will come with 12GB of RAM, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 series chipset, and Android 14 operating system.

A Realme smartphone appeared on the Geekbench website with model number RMX3840. This model number is believed to be associated with the Realme 12 Pro+, thanks to various other benchmark listings that popped up online earlier.

The handset has scored 1,025 points in single-core testing and 2,915 points in multi-core testing. The listing indicates the Android 14 operating system and 12GB of RAM on the Realme 12 Pro+. As per the listing, Qualcomm’s octa-core chipset with the codename ‘parrot’ will power the phone. This codename is associated with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. Further, the listing shows four CPU cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.40GHz, and four cores capped at 1.96GHz.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 First Impressions: A New Era of AI Phones

0
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 First Impressions: A New Era of AI Phones

[ad_1]

Samsung is bringing the power of AI right inside your smartphone. The company’s latest Galaxy S24 series smartphones come packed with a host of powerful and highly useful AI-powered features under the ‘Galaxy AI’ umbrella. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 also feature several major hardware upgrades, but Galaxy AI will get all the attention.

With on-device AI and deeper native integration of its Galaxy AI features the new Galaxy S24 series smartphones will inspire a whole new generation of ‘AI phones’ while making lives a lot easier for consumers.

We got a chance to check out the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 at the company’s first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. Let’s walk you through everything that’s new.

The magic of AI right inside your phone

Before we get to the smartphones, we should briefly touch upon the ‘Galaxy AI’ features that are commonly available across the new Galaxy S24 lineup. Samsung has added a suite of AI-powered tools to make it easier to communicate, search for information, and improve photography. These features are baked right into the default apps, eliminating the need for any third-party app.

galaxy s24 plus india galaxy

AI-powered camera features make editing a lot simpler

Live Translate offers a two-way, real-time voice and text translation of phone calls. It works right inside the native calling app and uses on-device AI to ensure privacy. Chat Assist is like having a tool like ChatGPT built into the messaging app. It can help you craft messages based on your requirements, like turning an informal text message into a more polished, formal version. Samsung Keyboard uses AI to translate messages in real-time in Hindi and 12 other languages.

Note Assist, built inside the Notes app, uses generative AI to draft summaries, create covers, and more. Circle to Search, built in collaboration with Google, lets you circle or highlight anything on your screen to search for relevant answers.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra continues to remain the premium, feature-packed smartphone in the flagship Galaxy S lineup. The Galaxy S24 Ultra now comes with a new titanium frame and a thinner body compared to its predecessor. It comes with a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with slightly slimmer and even bezels. The display offers a dynamic refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. The front display is protected by Corning Gorilla Armor which promises to keep the display safe from minor scratches while reducing reflections by up to 75 percent.

samsung s24 ultra india samsung

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra packs a bunch of powerful features

Carrying on from last year, Samsung is pushing up its efforts in sustainability by using 50 percent recycled cobalt in the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s battery and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in its speakers. Samsung has set a new goal to incorporate at least one recycled material in each module of its mobile offerings by 2030.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. Just like last year, Samsung has managed to get a customised version of Qualcomm’s latest chipset that promises NPU improvements for more efficient on-device AI processing. The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a larger vapour chamber to manage heat. The premium smartphone will be available with 12GB RAM and 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a quad rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. For selfies and video calls, you get the same 12-megapixel camera. The camera setup is getting a massive boost in software-based capabilities, all thanks to a suite of AI-powered tools.

Samsung has added a host of generative AI features to make editing photos a lot easier for general users. You’ll be able to erase and move objects, remaster images, and re-compose images using AI. Samsung is clear about the risks involved in using AI for imaging. A watermark is added to the image and in metadata every time you use generative AI to modify an image. Most of these AI-powered image editing tools work across the Galaxy S24 lineup.

As for the battery, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra still comes with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0. The smartphone runs Android 14-based One UI 6.1 out-of-the-box. Galaxy S24 Ultra will come in Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow colour options.

Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24

While the Ultra model in the flagship series gets most of the attention every year, those looking for a more affordable flagship experience prefer to go with the Plus or the vanilla variant. This year, however, the advanced AI-powered tools make the regular S series models very exciting as well.

galaxys24 india s20

Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 also include Galaxy AI capabilities

Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 feature a 6.7-inch QHD+ and 6.2-inch full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The displays are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Armor, while the phones are IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 will be available in Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow. Samsung says all the Galaxy S24 series models will get additional colour options that will be exclusive to online customers.

The camera setup on both smartphones consists of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 50-megapixel wide camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel front camera. Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 also feature the ProVisual Engine suite of AI-powered tools for editing images. Samsung claims the smartphones can now capture much better low-light photos with upgraded Nightography capabilities.

Samsung Galaxy S24+ will ship with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, while the Galaxy S24 will be available with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The former packs a 4,900mAh battery while the latter will come with a 4,000mAh battery, noticeable upgrades compared to the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23. Both the phones will also get Android 14-based One UI 6.1.

With an early launch, Samsung is setting the gold standard for the next generation of AI-powered smartphones. With on-device AI and a wide range of hardware and software improvements, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series smartphones certainly look quite promising. Will they live up to the hype? Poco X6 Pro Review: Total Bang for the Buck

Poco X6 Pro Review: Total Bang for the Buck

[ad_1]

Poco has been making good phones for a while, especially in the budget and mid-range segment. The Poco X6 Pro is one such phone, and it’s definitely going to rough some feathers in the mid-range segment. It reminds me of the Poco F1, which was an excellent first phone from the Xiaomi sub-brand. With the X6 Pro, you get features that are usually found on phones costing a lot more. There’s a lot to like with this phone, but there are a couple of things to dislike. I’ve been using the Poco X6 Pro for over a week now, and here’s what I think of it.

Poco X6 Pro 5G price in India

The Poco X6 Pro is available in India in two variants. The base model is priced at Rs. 24,999 and has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Our review unit is the higher-end variant with 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage. This model is priced at Rs. 26,999.

Poco’s new phone is available in three colour options – Poco Yellow, Racing Grey, and Spectre Black. The Poco Yellow variant has a vegan leather finish back panel, whereas the other two colours have a glossy plastic panel. I’ve been testing the Racing Grey option, and I must say that it is a beautiful colour.

In the box, the Poco X6 Pro comes with a silicone case, a SIM ejector tool, some paperwork, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a 67W fast charger. The phone also comes pre-applied with a screen protector.

Poco X6 Pro Review: Design

Poco X6 Pro starts at Rs. 24,999, but looks like it’s worth more. Although there’s no glass back or metal frame, I was fooled when I first laid my hands on the phone. The glossy plastic back panel feels and looks like glass. The same is the case with the flat plastic frame, which feels like it’s made from aluminium. It also feels good in hand and is comfortable to hold thanks to the curved back and rounded edges.poco x6 pro design poco-x6-pro-design

The phone has a nice weight to it, and everything is finished well. It also has the now familiar sizeable rectangular camera module that covers the entire top part of the rear panel. You get four separate rings that house three cameras and an LED flash. It also features the Poco branding.

On the front, things once again look premium. The display has thin bezels all around with a chin that’s only a little thicker than the rest. At first glance, I thought all the bezels were uniform. The Poco X6 Pro has a hole-punch cutout at the top and a slit right above it for the earpiece. The volume and power buttons are on the left frame.

The Poco X6 Pro gets an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, which means that the phone should be okay to use in rain. However, don’t submerge this phone underwater. This is an excellent feature to have at this price, but the recently launched Redmi Note 13 offers the same for a lesser price.

Poco X6 Pro Review: Specifications and software

Alright, let’s take a look at the specifications of the Poco X6 Pro. The phone is equipped with a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra SoC. Our review unit has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. There is no extra microSD card slot. Therefore, you cannot expand the storage. A virtual RAM boost feature is available, though, and it can add 6GB of additional RAM if and when required.poco x6 pro battery poco-x6-pro-specifications

The SIM tray at the bottom supports dual SIM cards with dual 5G standby. The phone also gets a USB Type-C 2.0 port at the bottom alongside the microphone and a speaker. There’s another speaker on the top rail, a microphone, and an IR blaster. The Poco X6 Pro features Bluetooth 5.4, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, NFC, and most GPS connectivity options.

Poco has included an optical in-display fingerprint scanner on the phone that’s placed towards the bottom of the display. Although I didn’t really like the placement of the sensor much, I must say that it did work quite well when I was using it. The sensor is fast and worked every time I used it.

The phone has a 5,000mAh battery that, in my time with the phone, performed very well. I could easily get over a day of battery life with some gaming, photography, watching YouTube, and using the phone for day-to-day chores. The battery is also relatively quick to fill. Thanks to the included 67W fast charger, the Poco X6 Pro went from dead to 100 percent in 58 minutes. However, I could charge the phone from 6 percent to 100 percent in just 47 minutes. That’s very close to the advertised 0 to 100 percent charging time of 45 minutes, which is impressive.

Now, coming to the software, the Poco X6 Pro is one of the first phones in India to launch with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS user interface. The phone gets Android 14-based HyperOS out-of-the-box that brings a better UI with a new control centre, a customisable lock screen, AI object detection, hidden apps, new fingerprint animations, a new system font called MiSans, a slightly better multi-window interface, large folders, and a Game Turbo mode. Poco has promised three years of OS updates and four years of security updates.poco x6 pro software poco-x6-pro-software

Although the software is pretty good, many pre-installed apps are still on the phone. Now, you can delete most of the apps, including games, but there are a couple that you cannot get rid of. This is probably the only downside of the new HyperOS on the Poco X6 Pro.

Poco X6 Pro Review: Performance

The Poco X6 Pro is a beast in its category. Even the more expensive Oppo Reno 11 Pro (Review) and the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ don’t get close to this phone in terms of performance. The 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra performs very well. In AnTuTu, with performance mode enabled, the phone achieved an overall score of 14,37,717. In Geekbench 6 the phone got a single core score of 1420 and a multi-core score of 4404 with the performance mode enabled. However, even with the mode disabled, the phone still hit 1.39 million on AnTuTu. The Geekbench scores were also very close to the scores achieved in performance mode.poco x6 pro review antutu poco-x6-pro-review-antutu

This is an excellent phone for gaming, period. It also has a WildBoost Optimisation 2.0 feature that further improves the gaming experience. A 5,000mm square liquid vapour chamber also keeps the phone from getting too hot. I could play BGMI in the highest settings in HDR mode without any lag.

Poco has also included an excellent display on the phone. It gets a 2160Hz touch sampling rate, which is excellent when gaming, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 6.67-inch AMOLED display offers 1.5K resolution with HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support. The panel provides 500 nits typical, 1,200 nits HBM, and 1,800 nits of peak brightness. The display gets quite bright indoors and is legible even under direct sunlight. It gets 68 billion colours and supports the DCI – P3 wide colour gamut. The Poco X6 Pro offers three preset colour modes (Original Colour Pro, Vivid, and Saturated) and an Advanced mode where you can play around with the RGB colours individually. The viewing angles on the phone are really good.

The phone features dual stereo speakers that are quite good in terms of audio quality and can get very loud. There is not a lot of bass, but there’s also no distortion at high volume.poco x6 pro performance poco-x6-pro-review-performance

In my time with the Poco X6 Pro, I did not face any software lag or stuttering. The heat when playing intensive games is very manageable. The phone hardly got super hot to touch, even when using the camera app extensively. For general daily use and some extreme gaming, the Poco X6 Pro is a great phone to get.

Poco X6 Pro Review: Cameras

The cameras on the Poco X6 Pro aren’t its strength. The phone gets a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B rear primary camera with OIS. The secondary rear camera is an 8-megapixel OmniVision OV08D ultrawide unit that can take photos at 0.6x and has a fixed-focus lens. Finally, there’s a third 2-megapixel Macro sensor. poco x6 pro camera poco-x6-pro-review-camera

Photos from the primary camera are good, with lots of details and some saturation. The camera performs pretty well in daylight but can struggle in low light, especially when it gets dark. It can shoot 4K videos at up to 30 fps and 1080p resolution at up to 60 fps. There’s an HDR mode available in both photo and video, but the results are mixed. The stabilisation isn’t excellent, and there is some noise, even in videos shot in bright sunlight. A 2x in-sensor zoom option is available, which also works well in good daylight. And shoots good photos in daylight. When it comes to low light, the ultrawide performs decently. The details are lost, and there’s lens distortion around the edges.

Poco X6 Pro takes good photos in daylight and in Night mode

The Macro mode is hidden away in the drop-down menu, and for good reason. It does take some decent close-up shots, but it’s nothing to be proud of. The Portrait mode is also nothing great, and I noticed a lot of issues with detecting the edges of an object. You can control the depth on the camera app even after taking a portrait photo.

Top: Macro mode | Bottom: Portrait shot

There’s a 16-megapixel OmniVision OV16A sensor for selfies and video calling, which takes decent photos. The phone offers a portrait selfie mode, night mode, and AI beauty features. The front camera can shoot videos at 1080p up to 30 fps.

The camera interface is easy to use, with all controls available on the Main screen. There’s a 64-megapixel mode that takes photos in full resolution with plenty of details. Slow motion video recording is also available with up to 120 fps support at 1080p resolution. A Night mode is available and does a decent job of capturing more light, but the results aren’t that much better than without Night mode. Overall, the Poco X6 Pro can take well-detailed but slightly saturated photos in daylight and do a good job even when things get dark.

Poco X6 Pro Review: Verdict

After using the Poco X6 Pro for over a week, I would recommend the phone to anyone looking for a midrange beast. If you’re looking for a powerful smartphone under Rs. 30,000 that can play all your favourite games, has a great display, offers good battery life, and has a decent set of cameras, then the Poco X6 Pro is an excellent choice. HyperOS is also good; if you can ignore the bloatware, you’ve got a total bang for the buck. Apart from the camera performance and the IP rating, I’d recommend this over the Oppo Reno 11 Pro and the Redmi Note 13 Pro+.
