Vivo X100 Spotted on AnTuTu With Dimensity 9300 SoC; Vivo X100 Pro Allegedly Shows Up on Geekbench

[ad_1]

Vivo X100 series comprising — Vivo X100, Vivo X100 Pro, and Vivo X100 Pro+ — is expected to go official soon. Vivo is yet to confirm the arrival of new X series handsets, but ahead of it, the Vivo X100 has been spotted on the AnTuTu benchmarking platform with the model number V2309A. The listing suggests that Vivo X100 runs on the yet-to-be-announced MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC. Additionally, the purported Vivo X100 Pro has allegedly surfaced on the Geekbench benchmarking site with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

The AnTuTu listing shows a Vivo phone with model number V2309A. This is notably one of the model numbers that were spotted on China’s Compulsory Certification (3C) website earlier this month. The listing, thought to be of Vivo X100, indicates an overall benchmark score of 2,249,858. The total points include a CPU score of 58,632 points and a GPU score of 9,18,790 points. The new model has 4,74,036 points as a MEM (memory) score and a UX score of 3,38,400 points.

The database mentions the presence of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC, coupled with 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM on the Vivo X100. Further, it highlights that the handset ships with Android 14 and includes 1TB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage.

A Vivo smartphone has also been spotted on the Geekbench website with the model number V2324A. The listing, believed to be that of the Vivo X100 Pro, suggest Android 14 operating system onboard the device. As per the benchmark listing, spotted by MySmartPrice, an octa-core chipset with the codename ‘taro’ will power the phone. It shows a prime CPU core with a maximum clock speed of 3.00GHz, three cores capped at 2.50GHz and four cores with a maximum speed of 1.79GHz. These CPU speeds indicate the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset on the upcoming Vivo X100 Pro.

The listing shows 984 points in single-core testing and 3,293 points in multi-core testing. As per the listing, the Vivo X100 Pro could get 11GB of RAM, this could get translated to 12GB on paper. The listing is dated October 12.

Previous rumours had hinted at the presence of MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC on the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro. As Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is quite old, Vivo could pack the latest chip for the upcoming flagship. Vivo is yet to confirm the development of the Vivo X100 series. Therefore, it is recommended to take all these details with a pinch of salt.

The Vivo X90 Pro has finally made its debut in India, but is the company’s flagship smartphone for 2023 equipped with enough upgrades over its predecessor? We discuss this and more on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.

Delhi Advocate Loses Rs. 50 Lakh in SIM Swap Scam: What Happened and How to Be Safe

Delhi Advocate Loses Rs. 50 Lakh in SIM Swap Scam: What Happened and How to Be Safe

[ad_1]

The latest to be a victim of the phone hacking fraud is an advocate in North Delhi who lost money from her bank account after having three missed calls from unknown numbers. The cyber unit of the Delhi police claims that the victim did not answer the phone or share an OTP. However, the accused was able to get her banking details and all of the victim’s private data and could take away her money. The police suspect that this could have been a case of SIM swapping scam.

An event involving a trial and high court attorney was reported on October 18, according to an Indian Express report. She reported to the police that she had experienced a substantial loss from her bank account. The precise amount she lost was not disclosed by the police.

The 35-year-old advocate reportedly missed three calls from a particular phone number, according to an officer. The caller stated it was a courier delivery call when she called back from a different number. The report added that the advocate then shared her house address with the caller since she assumed she would receive a package from a friend. Even though she did get a package, she also got two messages from her bank notifying her of two withdrawals that she was not aware of. The police have not yet identified the scammers or made any arrests related to the case.

According to the police, the investigation also discovered an “unusual” browser history that had sites and links listed that were not accessed by the victim. There were also UPI registrations and phishing-related SMS that were found, which the victim was unaware of. After the money was deducted, she also received a call from a man claiming to be an IFSO officer, but the advocate did not share any details with him either, the police confirmed. For those unaware, IFSO is the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of the Delhi Police.

What is a SIM Swapping Scam? SIM swapping, as the name implies, is a way scammers obtain a SIM card. It is effectively identity theft over the internet. Once they have access, they demand money from the user’s friends and relatives. They use social media accounts, access online banking, and more. Since many online services and products, including Internet banking, are adopting OTP-based two-factor authentication, criminals with access to a SIM card may do much harm. For this reason, it’s essential to maintain vigilance and acquire self-defence skills against this kind of cybercrime.

Here are some steps you can take to stay safe from SIM switch scams. Notify your telecom provider immediately if your SIM stops working. You can also use a SIM lock to stop someone else from using your SIM on their smartphone without a password. As a rule of thumb, you should avoid disclosing any personal information online, especially if it could lead to an easy password hack. It is also advisable to monitor your bank accounts and report any transactions that are not allowed.

India Mobile Congress 2023 Highlights: From JioSpaceFiber, 6G, 5G Redcap Device Demo and More

[ad_1]

The seventh edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023 kicked off on Friday with the inauguration by Prime Minister Modi at Bharat Mandapam. This year’s event is centred around the theme of Global Digital Innovation, with exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge technologies such as satellite communication, 6G demo, and other use cases.

The first day of the event saw dignitaries like Akash Ambani, Chairman – of Reliance Jio, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, and Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, attending the inaugural session of IMC 2023. Unlike last year, where the 5G rollout announcement was a big draw for the event, this year, we saw multiple demo sessions and other key announcements, which we will cover in this article, making the main headlines.

100 5G Labs

The first big announcement was about establishing 100 5G labs across India to promote students, professors, startups, and MSMEs to work on 5G technology in various fields like health, agriculture, manufacturing and more. These labs will be set up in academic institutions in multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Telangana, Karnataka and more. The names of institutions have been announced, and they include IIT Guwahati, IIT Silchar, Delhi Technological University, Jamia Hamdard University, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, and more.

At the IMC 2023 event, Reliance Jio demonstrated the country’s first satellite-based Gigabit broadband service to provide high-speed internet in previously inaccessible geographies. At the event, Jio demoed how they are offering internet to four locations, which are remote in location, including Gir Gujarat, Korba Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur Odissa, and Jorhat Assam. At the moment, there’s no word when the service will be widely available to users.

Reliance Jio also showcased the Jio Glass, a mixed-reality handset, at IMC 2023. Announced at the company’s 43rd annual general meeting, Jio Glass was available for demo paired to a OnePlus Nord smartphone. We tried it briefly for a few minutes, and it seemed decent.

6G Sensing Demo

Nokia presented a demo of its 6G network, which can act as a radar and sense objects, people, and movements without compromising privacy. This situational awareness will give individuals a digital 6th sense, enabling them to gather information about their surroundings, see around corners, and even interact with objects from a distance. Nokia showcased a live demonstration of this 6G sensing capability using prototype radio equipment. The company also highlighted its smart and safe railway networks (NCRTC) and its collaboration with Alstom to deliver a private wireless network for (NCRTC) Delhi to Meerut RRTS. It is claimed to be the world’s first LTE/4.9G private wireless network that supports European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 Signaling. The private network being deployed enables trains to continuously receive their movement authorities using radio signals and report their exact direction and position to ensure the safety of all on board. The low-emission RRTS will transport more people at average speeds of 100 kmph, reducing travel time and road congestion.

RedCap Technology Demo

Reduced Capability (RedCap) solution aims to bring down complexity and extend the battery life of devices while delivering higher data rates/ speeds. RedCap is a new radio access network (RAN) software solution by Ericsson that creates new 5G use cases and enables more 5G connections from devices such as smartwatches, other wearables, industrial sensors and AR/VR devices. At the IMC 2023, Ericsson and Airtel partnered with Qualcomm to demonstrate Reduced Capability (RedCap) device capabilities. Earlier this month, Ericsson’s pre-commercial Reduced Capability (RedCap) software was successfully tested on the Airtel 5G network.

How Airtel is solving network problems with AI

Airtel’s A-SON solution isn’t a new proposition, but it attracted us to demo how this works in a region. Airtel claims that its AI-powered Self Optimising Network or A-SON is reimaging network experience. The system detects anomalies and solves them with AI without any manual intervention. The solution is designed in a way to predict issues that the Airtel networks will face in future and ensure that the team resolves them beforehand. Notably, the solution is fully designed by Airtel and was first introduced in March 2022.

Additionally, Airtel also demonstrated how its Xtream AirFiber works for areas where it has no fiber or broadband connectivity. Currently, the service is available in select regions like Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Noida.

Apart from showcasing live 5G experiences at IMC 2023, Vi demonstrated various use cases spanning Enterprise, Consumer, and Community Development, highlighting the vast potential of technology and 5G.

OnePlus Nord 3 brings some serious upgrades over its predecessor, including some flagship-grade specifications. We discuss this and more on the latest episode of Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Tata Set to Become First Indian iPhone Maker in India as It Acquires Winston Unit

0
Tata Set to Become First Indian iPhone Maker in India as It Acquires Winston Unit

[ad_1]

iPhones will soon be made in India by an Indian company, as Tata has acquired the Wistron unit to become the first Indian iPhone maker. Wistron, the Taiwan-based contract manufacturer for Apple, has decided to sell a 100 percent stake in the Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) unit to Tata Electronics for a deal price of $125 million (nearly Rs. 1,040 crores). With the new takeover, Tata will set itself as the first-ever iPhone maker in India. Both companies reached this decision after Wistron approved the deal post its board meeting on October 27.

Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Technology, has also confirmed the development with his post on X. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PLI scheme, Tata Group will begin making iPhones in India within the next two and a half years. These Apple devices will be up for sale in both domestic as well as global markets.

He also shared a press release along with his post, which mentioned that Wistron has “granted approval to its subsidiaries, SMS InfoComm (Singapore) and Wistron Hong Kong Limited, to sign the share purchase agreement with Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL).” Once both parties sign the relevant agreements, the deal will move towards the next step of clearing further approvals.

Tata has been in talks over the takeover of the Wistron unit for some time now. In July, it was reported that the conglomerate was close to acquiring Wistron by August. However, there has been a delay of a few months in the plan. As per the report, Tata will engage in the assembling of iPhones in India at the Wistron unit that currently operates an iPhone assembly plant near Bengaluru.

The company has also been previously reported to be planning to open 100 stores across the country that will only sell Apple products. Apart from the recent takeover, Apple iPhones are assembled in India by two global suppliers – Foxconn and Pegatron — in Tamil Nadu. In fact, this year, India started selling ‘assembled in India’ iPhone 15 models on launch day for the first time.

Sony WF-1000XM5 Review: Good Things Come in Small Packages

Sony WF-1000XM5 Review: Good Things Come in Small Packages

[ad_1]

Sony is one of the leading premium brands in India when it comes to personal audio. As per Sony India, it is aiming for a 40 percent expansion in the audio business in this fiscal year. Sony’s 1000X series has been known for its premium sound quality thanks to impressive specifications and effective noise cancelling. Both the WF-1000XM3 and WF-1000XM4 offered good sound quality, decent battery life, and excellent noise cancellation, though the former lacked the advanced LDAC Bluetooth codec support. Sony launched its latest earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM5 in India in September 2023 priced at Rs. 29,990.

Sony claims that the latest earbuds are better than previous models in terms of the quality of audio, calls, and noise cancelling. In terms of the design too, these are lighter and smaller than their previous counterparts. How much value does the new model offer for its price? Let’s find out in this review.

Sony WF-1000XM5: Design, features and specifications

The earbuds come in two colours — Black and Platinum silver — and both have a glossy finish on the sides. They weigh 5.9g each. The WF-1000XM5 with the case weighs 39g. They are 25 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter than their predecessor, the WF-1000XM4. These are also smaller than flagship true wireless earphones in the mid-range segment like the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2
Thanks to the ergonomic design, I found that they fit comfortably in my ear and I was able to wear them quickly without any fiddling.

They also remained stable later on. Sony has provided ear tips in four different sizes which are large, medium, small, and the new addition to them – extra small. I used the medium size ear tip and found it to be quite comfortable. The earbuds have touch sensors for controlling playback, and also feature noise cancellation.

sony 1000xm5 review earbuds bundle gadgets360 ww

You get ear tips of different sizes in the box

The earphones and case are designed with recycled plastic materials and 100 percent paper packaging.
Touch controls on the Sony WF-1000XM5 are customisable through the Sony Headphones Connect app. You can also enable adaptive sound control, changing music playback when the device is connected in a multipoint connection, ambient sound control, speak-to-chat, and voice assistant.

Coming to the specifications, each earbud features an 8.4mm Dynamic Driver X. The earbuds are powered by an integrated Sony Processor V2 along with Sony’s QN2e Active Noise Cancellation chip. Sony claims that the WF-1000XM5 features their best-ever call quality thanks to bone conduction sensors and deep neural network programming.

The earphones support Bluetooth 5.3, Google Fast Pair, multipoint connection, and 360 Reality Audio. It has a frequency range of 20Hz to 20,000Hz (up to 40,000Hz with LDAC), and an effective operating range of 10m from the source device. It supports SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 audio formats. The earbuds have an IPX4 rating for water resistance, but the case is not water resistant.

Premium earbuds like Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds, AirPods Pro (2nd Gen), and Google Pixel Buds Pro also come with an IPX4 rating. The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is rated IPX7 and should therefore, be equipped to handle significant exposure to water.

Sony WF-1000XM5: Performance and battery life

I paired the Sony WF-1000XM5 with my Google Pixel 6a and found that the earbuds definitely deliver on the promise of impressive sound quality and spatial audio. I played songs of different genres and could hear the songs and instruments being played with excellent clarity and detail. The bass is rich without being overwhelming. I listened to “Calm Down” by Rema and was impressed with the audio quality. The Afrobeats were clear and the various instruments like guitar, bass guitar, and drums, could be heard with good clarity. The earphones delivered the collective energy of the song pretty well and made it an enjoyable experience.

sony 1000xm5 review earbud gadgets360 ww

The Sony WF-1000XM5 is smaller and more comfortable than its predecessor

To test the bass and treble, I played the classic “Boom Boom Pow” by Black Eyed Peas. Every element could be heard clearly. While the beats sounded good in both low and mid-volume, the best part was that the sound quality did not suffer and was equally good when the volume was high.

The earbuds come with very effective noise cancellation that removes all the exterior noises both indoors and outdoors. Most of the time, I used the noise cancellation feature while sitting inside the metro and found that it was effective in cancelling the conversation noise of other commuters sitting next to me. Other noises like that of the wind, air-conditioner, and the commotion while taking a walk on the street were effectively cut out too. Call quality was good and transparency mode also worked decently well with these earbuds.

Coming to the battery, the Sony WF-1000XM5 has a pretty long battery life. Sony claims a music playback time of up to eight hours with ANC and Bluetooth activated. With the noise cancellation feature turned off, you should get a music playback time of up to 12 hours. In my case, the battery lasted for around 7.5-8 hours, which mostly involved listening to music or taking one or two calls in between, and the ANC feature was always turned on. It took approximately 1.5 hours for the earbuds to charge fully with wired charging, which is pretty decent.

sony 1000xm5 review earbuds outofbox gadgets360 ww

The Sony WF-1000XM5 offers excellent audio and noise cancelling performance

The battery life is better than that of the Sony WF-1000XM4 which lasted around 6 hours with similar usage, and even compared to the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro which lasted 5 hours. The WF-1000XM5 is similar to the comparatively less expensive Sony WF-C700N where the battery lasted for around 7 hours.

Verdict

A comfortable fit, top-notch sound quality, and brilliant noise cancellation are definitely the strong points of the Sony WF-1000XM5. Though some might argue that the price of the earbuds is on the higher side, if you are someone who is ready to spend a bit more for a complete package that offers an enriching audio experience, then this is made for you. However, if you are an iPhone user, the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) will be a better option.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chip Confirmed to Arrive on OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14, iQoo 12 and Realme GT5 Pro

[ad_1]

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was announced by Qualcomm at the chipmaker’s annual Snapdragon Summit event on Tuesday. The new chip will power flagship Android smartphones from a range of manufacturers expected to debut in the coming weeks and months — starting with the Xiaomi 14 that will be launched on October 26. OEMs like Asus, Honor, iQoo, Meizu, Nio, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Redmi, Red Magic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE will launch smartphones that are equipped with the new chip.

The Xiaomi 14 is set to debut on October 26 as the company’s next flagship smartphone and will be the first handset to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Company president William Lu has already confirmed the launch of the handset in China, but the company has not announced the launch of the Xiaomi 14 in other markets, including India.

On November 7, iQoo has scheduled a launch event where the company is expected to unveil the iQoo 12 in China — this phone is confirmed to be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip. Both Vivo and Realme have also confirmed the arrival of smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

Meanwhile, OnePlus and Oppo will also launch phones powered by the new Snapdragon chip. We already know the next handset from the former will be called the OnePlus 12, but the company is yet to announce a launch date. On the other hand, we can expect the Oppo Find X7 Pro to be the firm’s first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip under the hood.

Redmi K70 will debut in China as the company’s first smartphone to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, but there’s no official launch date for the handset at the time of publishing this article. Onthe other hand, ZTE has confirmed that upcoming phones from Nubia and Red Magic will be equipped with the flagship Snapdragon chipset.

Other smartphone manufacturers that have confirmed that their upcoming flagship phones will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip — without revealing the names of the handsets — include Honor, Asus, Sony, and Motorola. We can expect more smartphone makers to announce plans to launch handsets powered by the new Snapdragon chip in the coming days and weeks.
